Do these have the cliff drop around 10 kHz like the HD518s?
My HD518s have pleasant sound overall, but due to drop off around 10 kHz there is notable loss of detail. I listen to many genres (prog rock, classic rock, classical, jazz, etc. I'm not a bass head, but it needs to be there and be articulate, and musical, not sloppy. I like balance and detail, not harsh or muddy. I wonder about the sound of these cans. I'm not into getting them and then trying to sell them if they do not suit me. (As for comfort, there is no question about that, Senns are the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn to date).
What are you using for a source?
Well, I use my two systems generally. I run through a Schiit Magni on system B and a JDS Labs O2 on system A. I mainly use CD and vinyl as source.
I am using KORG DSDAC100. Amazing sound plus the DSD advantage.
So, I haven't listened to the HD518s but I think the HD-6XX are pretty balanced. They are warmer sounding but not muddy by any means. HD-6xx are just too good of a deal and a very fine sounding headphone. In sum, the HD-6xx aren't perfect but what is? :)
