I know this has been extensively discussed (European customs), but I´ve learned that Masdrop ships to Germany and from there to final European destination (would be Spain in my case). I´ve read from some users that they received their product at home from Germany without any further customs bureaucracy. Massdrop tells me however, that despite being routed from Germany, origin of package will be stil the US, so still possible to be stopped at customs.
Any European customer here can clarify what was his experience from any recent purchase? I´m not really worried about paying the extra price from customs, I´m worried about the forms, declarations an pain in the a$$ bureaucracy to clear a US import through local customs.
Thank you in advance
My previous drop was also delivered via Germany. But that is just the transportation side of things. It still goes through the customs at the final country of delivery. How they check things and if they charge you depends solely on your local customs.
In my country I don't have to worry much about forms, MD will label the package properly, and customs can check that that the contents are as declared, so they could just calculate the fees and pass it on. I would have to pay the fees when I pick up the package or when it gets delivered to me.
Just remember that when you are buying from outside of the EU, you should ALWAYS expect to pay the VAT and also be prepared for import fees and handling fees. If the total price is too high, then perhaps you should reconsider the purchase.
Thank you very much for your feedback! VAT + fees will increase the price about 25%, but even so at current EUR/$ levels it would still be interesting if I just could pay it to the transport company at delivery. What I don´t want though, is to cope with the horrible bureaucracy of setting appointments, filling custom forms, etc. if the package is retained at local customs. I´ve read some horror stories in that regard. On the other side, also read stories about people receiving products from MD delivered to their homes without even paying any aditional tax. It´s pretty confusing overall.
All the customs declaration can be done online where I live. It just takes a couple of minutes to fill out the online forms and you can pay both customs and vat directly after you are done. At least that how it works in Finland. The package will usually arrive one or two days after that.
Yeah, not quite the same here in Spain. You have to phisically set an appointment in the local tax office, fill out import and tax clearance forms including an official invoice, etc. A royal pain in the a$$. I´ve just cancelled my purchase because of this.
What if I live in Germany. Will I have to pay anything other than 214 $?
You should expect to have to pay at least the 17% VAT over $214.
But you can also get lucky.
