I'm very new to this so I have no clue what type of dac/amp will work best with these headphones. Can anyone recommend me an affordable dac/amp?
I will be receiving my headphones next week but from what I've read, plugging them straight into a PC won't be enough for what these headphones have to offer. Any help is appreciated.
Hi. If you live in North America, or Western Europe, would you consider a headphone amp and/or DAC from Schiit Audio? Don’t let their screwball company fool you. I purchased their Modi DAC & Magni3 headphone amp. <$500 CDN. No regrets. Just my 2 cents...
Apparently the odac from mayflower is pretty good, also the schiit stack and nfb-11, it all depends on what type of music you listen to and the price point
This is probably as far as you need to go with a moderate budget. (Disregard if you have more than $5000 to spend) $399 if you have an external dac, $499 if you don't. Well worth the money, get one and you don't have to worry about buying other gears for your cans for a long while.
If you have space in your PC, get the Sound Blaster AE-5 sound card. That can drive up to 600Ohm. The downside is the Creative driver are buggy if your not running windows 10. If you dont want a sound card Schiit seems a good choice.
What does the module and tubes mean? and how does it affect the system? Thanks for the input btw, will be getting the Lyr3.
Lyr 3 Is a tube amp, the multibit DAC module is in case you need an external dac. Both are needed to play music out of your headphones. Lyr3 is a good choice, though still new, not sure how it synergizes with the 6XX to be honest. Assuming similar to Lyr2 then it'll be pretty warm.
You can use the Massdrop O2 amplifier with your PC. It's $95 and does an excellent job.
You will have better results with a dedicated DAC, but it's not strictly necessary.
Hi. You might be surprised. Plug it in on your PC’s rear ports.
I understand your concern, though. For best “detail”, an external amp (or a properly rated sound card) is ideal. I’m spoiled... my Magni3 headphone amplifier (while it has a dinky volume knob) will easily power (esp with detail) your HD6xx cans. Congratulations on your upcoming shipment. I’m having to wait until mid August!
A Lyr?! Holy carp. Those cans are going to sound fantastic!
While I gave up on sound cards, and went the little little-Schiit-aluminum-external-DAC/amp-box route, I think Cards still have a place in the market.
