Hey! Anybody have tips for some custom cables for the HD6XX?
Or are the original cables okay?
Most people think they are great, I mean, decent enough! Going for custom cables would only be for an esthetic reason. I've heard good things about these cables.
Custom cables can provide a benfit if you have something like a balanced audio source (meaning left and right channels have their own - and are a discreet circut...sometime reffred to as dual-mono). A balanced cable with a source provides some real benefit to sound quality.
Other than this case, fancy cables are mostly snake oil.
True. I agree, he could get balanced XLR cables for his 6XX.
To fiskenmin: Just keep in mind you would also need a balanced DAC and amp to take benefit of these cables. The Jotunheim from Schiit Audio is a great balanced DAC and amp combo.
Even though the sound difference is very, very minimal, you still get some benefits from using balanced audio.
I ordered both the upgraded, balanced cables and the Jotunheim to go with the 6XXs. I can definitely hear the difference--it's sort of "whooshing" sound. Kind of like...a lot of money leaving my checking account at the same time!
And mind you, NONE of that stuff has arrived yet!!!
i just have the asus stx sound card for now but saving for the jot as well. have heard nothing but good things
You have plenty of time to save--all I've heard from Schitt is "backordered until March 28th" and I'm getting pretty annoyed by it at this point.
If ever get it, I'll let you know what I think ;- )
No need to worry about that right now, get the headphones first, plug them in, see how you like them. Custom cables might or might not make a difference, but if you have a balanced Amp I would suggest getting a balanced cable for it, you can find some that is modified from the stock cable. IMO unless you already know how the custom cable will sound or will change the sound, don't bother with it first and just give the stock cable a try.
