Anybody know a good PORTABLE Dac/Amp for these?
Fiio Q1 Mark II, I've heard nothing but good things about it.
The Fiio Q1 MKII is listed as recommended for headphones from 16 to 150 Ohms and that's out of its more powerful balanced out. At 300ohms the HD6xx really need something with more oomph and probably higher price bracket, unfortunately.
I haven't researched many portables in a while but off the top of my head I think the Oppo HA2-SE, iFi iDSD (BL) and chord Mojo should drive these pretty good, but might be more than your willing to pay ( more expensive then the HD6XX themselves).
The Fiio A5 is more affordable and with good power, but it just an AMP (no DAC section).
I've never used it but the XDuoo XD-05 might be an option. On paper it has a good DAC with the AKM AK4490 and enough power for 300ohms headphones. It can sometimes be found on Massdrop, not sure the price though.
Wish I could be of more help.
I decided to go with a non portable set up of schiit vali 2 amp and modi 2 dac
A desktop setup is probably the better move. 👍
Although it would have been nice to have something portable that I could use with my phone on the go and/or if I'm not near a place with with an outlet
You can always decide know that down the road.
That's what my iDSD Micro Black Lable is for (transportable audio setup). When actually on the go IEMS and Bluetooth are my preference.
Schiit jotunheim with schiit multibit dac.
i have a Chord Mojo, will mention how it pairs once I’ve received the headphones
