Just received mine and WOW! Loved them! Thank you so much Massdrop !
Just a question... is the cable length suppose to be this short?
Didn't measure it, I will when I get home, but it is pretty short.
I don’t have my 6XX yet but if the cable is like the one with the 650, you might see an improvement in a better cable. Also maybe you want a Long cable but I prefer a shorter one since I sit next to my amp/DAC. Dont get the super cheap generic ones off Amazon but you find nice ones for <$70.
can you recommend any cable?
I ordered Ursine audio cables but I also ordered an Acrolink cable from Amazon from Hifiking(seller) which actually seems to be a very nice shorter length cable. Those are more of the affordable options I’ve seen lately. You shouldn’t have trouble finding less affordable options lol. I’ll probably be buying an x-series cable from Plussound eventually for a bit more. They even have drops here occasionally.
Same cable as on the HD650 but less than half the length. The shorter they are, they better they perform. Cable length impact the sound quality much more than the material or design.
That’s why sennheiser provides a 3m cable with all of their headphones by default. Read something about the properties of conductors in cables, before stating something like this, will you?
Most headphones come with a 3m cable, doesn't matter the brand, this is standard. The Sennheiser HD6XX comes with a 1.8m cable, which performs better than the standard. The best cable is no cable at all, zero inductance, zero capacitance, zero noise, but because this isn't possible then the shortest one you can find is generally better.
From a technical standpoint maybe but from a practical one I wonder how far past negligible the difference would be.
From my own personal experience, not negligible in general. But all audible differences between cables is overshadowed by changes in other parts of the chain (i.e. headphone, amp, source). It's the last change you should make to any system, and I wouldn't spend more than 10% of the value of your rig on fancy cables.
