Wow people are buying these like crazy. What's so good about them anyways, they don't sound THAT much better, do they?
These are essentially just heavily discounted Sennheiser HD650s (some of the most highly regarded headphones ever made) with a different paint job. The HD6XX is an extremely good value and a great way for people to get into audiophile grade headphones.
Better than what? headphones are highly subjective but at 200 bucks there is not much competition if you want a laid back set of can :)
I have been using the HD6XX for over a year now, and still loving them. Not because they sound way better than other stuff, but because it's sound signature is very non-fatiguing for any type of music I throw at it. At least for me, it's an all around comfortable sound, and IMO sounded even better when I upgraded my amp. High quality amplification does show what these headphones are capable of.
I do agree with MC3700.
They are lots of amazing sounded headphones out there but only a few you can enjoy them for all genres of music. I had a chance to experience upgraded headphones but there's something about HD 650/ 6XX that always makes me come back.
What amp did you upgrade to?
I went from a Micca Origen+, to a Schiit Jotunheim. Recently i picked up a DarkVoice here on massdrop, sounds very good on that too!
Interested in trying out the Darkvoice myself too. Hopefully it will drop again in the near future.
Heard them yesterday here in Japan for 2hours session. Nice cans but too neutral for my taste. Instead I was blown away by the audiotecnica ATH 1000Z closed back with wooden caps. Amazing natural sound with sparkling highs and perfect lows. But they cost nearly double. :-(
