I paired these with the DarkVoice 336SE headphone amplifier. I am not an experienced headphone user, but have a reasonable amount of experience in hi-fi. I was curious about the whole head-fi thing and bought this. I am really enjoying this combination. There was no wow factor for me when I listened to the headphones for the first time, probably expecting too much, these are after all, legendary headphones ... but the more I used it, the more I liked it. I just wanted to listen to another track, and another, and another... The sound is well balanced. It has a good amount of bass to really enjoy, but without being mushy and overpowering the mids and highs. One of the things that I do enjoy very much is the instrument separation and the placement of the sounds in the sound stage, very 3D. Using it, is a very comfortable and enjoyable listing experience, without auditory or physical fatigue when used for extended periods of time. As an added bonus, I can change the sound signature with rolling vacuum tubes on the DarkVoice. These headphones need amplification. I would not consider using it without.
I am very happy with my purchase and will probably stay in my frequently changing audio setup for a very, very long time. I don't feel the need to upgrade.
