I was disappointed with the HD6xx, and this was entirely surprising. It seemed a perfect match for me, since I prefer a warmer tone than the traditional "neutral" that audiophiles like to shove in our faces as the epitome of great sound. But the HD6xx had no impact in the bass at all. At the other end of the spectrum, it is so laid off in the treble, it lacks excitement when called for in the music...no bite when necessary. As far as I am concerned it is a one trick pony headphone, with a really nice midrange, but it isn't enough. Even the details in the upper midrange seemed too smoothed over. Overall I found them bland and soporific. Combine this with a too tight fit, plasticy construction and the poorest sound stage I have heard in an open back headphone since I owned an SR60i, and it just didn't add up to a headphone that I appreciated. Sold them after five and a half months of frustration and trying them with different amps and DACs.
Very happy with my X2 and TH-X00 however.
