Wow. Just, wow. And for just $200? Yeah, if you dig quality sound and are looking for a nice pair this is a run don't walk kind of deal.
I am almost 50 years old and to say I have listened to the Rolling Stones' Honky Tonk Woman and Sympathy for the Devil A LOT throughout many of those years would be putting it mildly. Until now I had never heard Honky Tonk Woman's ever so delicately and softly layered "aaahhhh"s off in the back left soundstage at around the 17, 27 and 35 second marks. I had also not heard Sympathy for the Devil's background voices (particularly the woman's voice at the beginning) in quite this way... like I can feel the space in which the party is happening. These headphones have transformed that mere "intro babble" into an integral part of this song and thus, to a certain extent, transformed this song for me. What's more, I am finding the same rediscovery and re-enjoyment across all of my music, from jazz to 50s/60s/70s/80s to EDM to hip-hop/rap to classical to etc..
All this despite the facts:
1) Certainly my hearing is not getting any better, especially after all of the abuse it has taken
2) I am listening to apple music via the built in stereo mini jack in my macbook air
It is true these are not the bass-iest headphones I've ever owned, but I am somehow actually hearing the nuances of the flux and flow of the bass' density as it travels like never before. I cannot wait to get my DAC and headphone amp to see what these babies can really do.
