Although shipping took over 2 months for my order, these headphones are exceptional and well worth the wait. For the price I paid ($199) I couldn't be happier, and they definitely deserve a 5 star review. I mostly use these headphones for gaming and the difference is amazing, it's much easier to hear enemy footsteps and determine their exact location in comparison to the other varieties of headphones I've owned.
The highs are excellent while the bass is a bit lacking, I expected this because it's how most open headphones in this price range sound. I prefer the HD 6XX's open design much more than my closed M50x's that I also got from Massdrop, the M50x's do have more bass due to being closed, but I found the HD 6XX's to have a more favorable overall listening experience. Just so you know, they don't sound amazing right out of the box. After owning my pair for about a year, they broke in very well and sound much better than my M50x's now. I found that the HD 6XX's felt tight out of the box and put a decent bit of pressure on my head during extended use. I fixed this issue by putting the headphones over a tissue box during the first week of owning them so the band could stretch while I wasn't using them. They are super comfortable now, especially after the band and pads were worn in. I can wear these headphones for hours now and it's easy to forget that you are even wearing them at times.
I paired these HD 6XX's with a Schiit Fulla 2 DAC/amp which is plenty powerful for these cans, I also liked that I could plug my Klipsch THX powered speakers into the amp and switch between them and my headphones with ease. If you can snag these headphones around the $200 mark they are definitely worth the price. My whole setup was only $300 and it's definitely the best price for performance setup I've had so far. The matte black box the headphones came in is also worth mentioning, it has a high quality feel and doesn't seem to be made from plastic. I travel a lot between college and home so I use the box all the time to safely transport my headphones, the box is even big enough to hold my Schiit Fulla 2 DAC/amp as well as all of its cords.
If you're reading this review while the drop happens to be active, don't second guess yourself and smash that drop button. I was lucky enough to get these headphones the first time they dropped, even though the drop ended during the first few hours. These headphones go fast and are pretty popular on here, I recommend joining this drop as soon as it goes live to secure yourself a pair.
Thank you for discussing the schiit fulla2 pairing your using. it’s a concern to buyers how to power these headphones
