I have the k7xx already, would these be considered different enough to be worth having both?
My 6XX is on its way and I don't have a k7xx so I have no way to know from experience, but before I decided to get these, I read a number of reviews comparing the two (or equivalent versions of the two) and everyone said they're considerably different headphones. I was going to either get a k7xx or 6xx.
Sure, its worth having both (6xx and K7xx) they sound different. I dont find one better than the other. The HD6xx is worth it. I would had recommended the HE4xx over the K7xx, but since you already have it, enjoy it!
I have both (well the real version AKG k702) and don’t like my k702, of the 12+ headphones I own my AKG k702 are my least favorite (Because of the lack of punchy bass).
when I got my HD 6XX, I pretty much never wore the K702 again except when I want to test new DAC/AMPs. The k702 pairs well with Creative SoundBlaster but of course those are crappy for music.
Yes, I didn't want to offend Cmdr_Jadron for buying the K7XX, but the HD 6XX is miles ahead. You will rarely see a HD6XX sold second hand on ebay for less than what massdrop sells it new, the K7XX is a different story.
I think both are legendary for a reason, it all depends on your tastes. My own person preferences agree with you completely that the HD6XX is the better sounding headphone, in fact it's one of the best sounding headphones regardless of price. However there is a guy in my local community who thinks the same of his K702, and I hold him in high regard, despite we share different opinions. Both our setups are $5k+, and both of us use $200 headphones on those :)
HD6XX is easy to recommend. I ended up selling mine to a friend for $100 (with an XLR cable) Because it can’t keep up with my flagships.
Thanks for the answers! I've gone ahead and joined the drop. I do love my k7xx especially for gaming since nothing in the price range can match the soundstage and accuracy as far as I know (I even got a custom cable), but I couldn't pass up on something so well regarded. I hope these are as good for music as everyone says they are since that is pretty much why I bought them. With that I'd have gaming cans and music cans, already have a sanskrit 6 dac and k5 which I don't feel the need to upgrade anytime soon. I'll be all set!
