I've enjoyed my HD6xx for a week now...
I'm still in love with them. The head clamp's slooowwwwwly loosening. My older Senheisser cans have been moved into the living room for daily use. My Massdrops... well... they're in my study when SERIOUS listening is necessary.
The HD6xx become really comfortable to wear with time. I adjusted/bent the metal bands from the very same day I received mine and that made them my most comfortable headphones I own. BTW, I have a mellon shape head, lol.
Initially I extended and straightened the headband at each side but mine didn’t get truely comfortable until I bent the headband a little at the very top, like Tyll of Inner Fidelity showed on YouTube. Freaked me out a little, I was sure the plastic band was going to break. Can wear them for 3 or 4 hours now, although my ears can still get a little hot at times.
@AntoineP ... I saw that episode! I don’t have the minerals to try what Tyll did on his vlog. I’ll keep flexing the spring steel.
I wonder who‘s taking over the headphone reviews now that he’s retired (and travelling around in his converted van)? It’s a great series... they were brave enough to crack open $1K HD800s and modify them. Whoah...
The HD6XXs were intensely uncomfortable when I first got them, but multiple sessions bending the metal bands finally got them to a point where they are reasonably comfortable for a couple of hours. They are still nowhere near as comfortable as the HD700s, which I wear a lot more. (I like the 700s a lot more overall, better bass and its much wider soundstage is particularly terrific for movies and gaming; their supreme comfort is a happy bonus.)
Do what you gotta do, although there is steel all the way over the top. Currently lying on the couch down here in NZ after 5 hours watching Westworld, YouTube headphone reviews and listening to music. Best $199 I ever spent 👍🏼
Sure, only problem is the 700s are "worth" 3 times more and I am not saying they aren't worth it, just more expensive.
I suspect one would have to jump several models ‘up’ to make it worthwile... especially if the price gets cranked up like that. I feel like Senheisser’s the media darling in personal audio. Thus, the price hike. Meh...
Someone posted a Youtube video with instructions on how to loosen the 6xx headband without damaging it. I don't remember who posted it and where it is in this monster thread, but it's in here somewhere. I tried it and it worked quite well. You extend the headphones to max length and then gently flex ONLY the metal part with your thumbs, flexing it back and forth 5 to 10 times with you grip only on the metal. I didn't bend mine very hard and indeed, it loosened them enough that I didn't feel like I had a vice on my head anymore.
It’s the first day of September, 2018. My HD6xx are going strong. Zero wrong with them.
