This is my first pair of "audiophile" headphones, so everything I say take with a pinch of salt.
The HD 6XX sound exactly like how you imagine your music should sound. Going from listening to your cheaper headphones or earphones you might pick up some definition you were missing before, but likely that isn't the case. Go the other way, and you'll miss the fullness and clarity these provide.
Pair the HD 6XX's with a decent enough amp/dac and you're in for a great time. They're comfortable and light weight enough that I've been able to wear them all day without any comfort issues. The initial clamping pressure can be a little much, but they'll wear in nicely.
They scale nicely as well, so you can easily run them out of a laptop or phone, making them ideal as a good audio solution if you're travelling a lot (though perhaps not while using public transport, they can leak a fair bit of sound).
As others have said, they don't have the most bass, or the most reference of sounds, but that's not what you buy these for. If you want a lovely warm listening experience that's fun in the right places, then I wouldn't hesitate.
