My HD 6XX cans have arrived. A friend asked me about "break-in" time. Some reports on the internet claim that about 150 hours of playing time is required to "season" them for optimum sound reproduction. So what do I do? Should I leave them plugged in to an FM radio station for 6 days? Is this an urban myth? Any thoughts anyone?

Just use them they will sound better the more you use them.

Imo it's a myth. Pad deforming can make a real difference though. Also brain will get used to slightly different sound (kinda like when you get new glasses). So just enjoy them and don't worry.

100% this. While burning in does change the sound of the headphones, it's by such a tiny amount that it's almost impossible to notice. People who say it has a huge effect are delusional or are hearing changes resulting from pad compression (ie. the drivers are actually closer to their ears).

There is a placebo effect but ummm I dunno, I left them running pink noise for 8 hours and noticed a distinct volume improvement. Admittedly I’ve switched to an upgraded cable too but overall it’s very noticeable.
