i ordered these last year and have loved them so far... but the stock cable just randomly stopped working, anyone happen to know where i can find a good cable that wont cost $40?

You can easily buy a replacement from Sennheiser for well under $40. There's no point buying any other type of aftermarket cable unless they are balanced XLR and you have an amp with balanced outputs.

The stock HD 650 cable is 3m and 1/4” jack, and of very high quality. It lists on their website for $10.99, but they don’t sell direct anymore.
You should be able to get it for about $22 on Amazon. Part # 092885:

If you have any soldering skill (and depending on where in the cable the issue is), the stock cable is very easy to work with to replace the 1/8" minijack. If the issue is midline (unlikely) or at the connection at the earcups that's more of a PITA, but if you can salvage the cable I'd say it's worth it.
