My best headphones. Truly loving these. Here's why:
Pads have an oblong shape which is perfect for my ears. Fit totally inside with ease. Pad on headband allows them to rest easily providing wearing comfort over many hours. And I have left them on for hours without fatigue. High clamping force inward toward your head, but I like that. My head is kinda big (hat size 7 3/4).
Superb solid build quality that I'm confident will last for years. Pads, headband, sizing mechanism all seem well made and solid.
Here's where they really shine. These are the best sounding headphones I've ever heard. Bar none. My others: Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee (very close), Bose Quietcomfort II, Bose Quietcomfort 35 II, AKG 7xx (also close). The HD6xx are the ones I come back to again and again for listening quality. A great way to end the day is to relax with these, listening to some great sound. My music taste spans a wide range from instrumental, New Age (e.g. Liquid Mind), Classical, Rock, Pop. All sound wonderful. Soundstage is wide, imaging is spot on - can place location of instruments. Tight drums, clear vocals, highs that give me shivers.
Another aspect I like (that others may not) is the frequency response is relatively flat. In other words, these headphones provide a nice representation of the way the music is recorded. The bass is not amplified, neither is the treble. Some people want that, but I find artificial boost for bass and treble to be fatiguing.
My preferred setup for these is
Sources: Spotify premium, Tidal Premium
Streaming Transport: Google Chromecast optical
DAC: Bifrost Multibit (Schiit)
Amp: Lyr 3 (Schitt) Headphone amp, with NOS Sylvania "Bad Boy" Three Hole Tube - (my goodness)
To get great sound, one has to think of the whole link above and these headphones are the perfect culmination of this stream from source to my ears.
I'm so happy with these I joined the drop again. Perhaps for my daughter or as a backup for me. One of my best purchases. Thanks Massdrop and Sennheiser!
