I have an IBasso D-Zero MK2 AMP/DAC. Is this powerful enough to drive these sufficiently?

morthobbsNot the same but may give you some idea, My IBASSO DX80 drives the HD 6XX very well. It's an excellent match with the high gain range selected IMO. Headphone output level 2.9Vrms (32 ohms load). How does that compare with your D-Zero specs?

kenwstrDon't know about the output level but here's what I found:
iBasso D-Zero MK2 USB-DAC/Headphone AMP
Main features: - Dual Wolfson WM8740 DAC Chips. - VIA Vinyl Envy USB2.0 audio controller, takes up to 24Bit/96kHz digital signal. - OPAMP+BUF design, ensures high current output.  - Takes Windows PC, MACcomputers USB digital signal (USB Soundcard), OTG audio signal from Android 4.1 or above device, digital signal from iPhone/iPad with camera kit. - Works as a DAC+AMP Combo, a standalone AMP, or a standalone DAC (Line out function).  - 2-Setting Gain Switch for impedance matching.  - Rechargeable Li-polymer battery with integrated charging system. - 120 hours play time when works as an AMP and 10 hours when used as a DAC. - Slim and small, it is ultra-portable design. - Pouch, USB cable, 3.5mm to 3.5mm interconnect, OTG cable, silicone strap, and warranty card.

marcolozada iBasso D-Zero MK2 Specs recommended headphone impedance 8-300 ohms here: http://ibasso.com/uploadfiles/20141113/201411132259162695.pdf My HD6XX specs say Nominal impedance 300 ohms. I guess that means this combination is just within recommended matching limits (for excellent sound). Look, the reality is, the HD 6XX headphones will produce sound from almost any headphone device, though insufficient power will reduce their performance. That being the case, IME I would expect this combination to perform well together. As I have not tried these specific devices together I cannot guarantee the result though. I have used my HD 6XXs with my HP laptop, Yamaha mixing console, Essence HDACC, iBasso DX80, Samsung tablet and several other devices. The phone and tablet are possibly the worst but the sound is still OK, just not as good as with a high output device. The D-zero appears to have a high gain setting same as my DX80. Driving high impedance headphones is exactly what high gain is for. The real question is whether the HD6XX has the spectrum response curve you personally like? This is probably the biggest question when it comes to HiFi headphones. Do you want bassy, flat, expressive or a bright expression of sound? I think the HD6XX are expressive and engaging.

marcolozadaIf you end up pairing them, let us know. I've been reading through old Head-Fi forums to see if the Mk2 can drive 300 ohm headphones and really make them sound good, and so far haven't seen anything definitive.

marcolozadaI found a power rating for the DX80 : 10V voltage swing headphone amp, Up to 260mW Output Power. I generally run the HD650s around 70% volume on this DAP.
HD6XX Specs for long term power is max 500mW.
Try to find a power spec for the D-Zero MK2 for comparison.
