Hey guys, been on the fence for these since the earlier drops and have seen and read lots of recommendations regarding amp/dac pairings that will work with these, which mostly are desktop setups, understandably, as these are meant for quiet/private listening...
But since I move a lot, I surrounded myself with portable audio gear (inexpensive stuff) like: dac/amp: Fiio A5, Fiio Q1 mkii, Fiio Q5 amp: Topping NX1S, Fiio K5 (my only desktop amp) bluetooth adaptors: Fiio BTR1, Fiio BTR3, Bluewave GET dap: LG V20, Fiio X5 mkii, Shanling M0, ipod shuffle, and ipod classic (6th gen)
So my question is, with the stuff I already have, would any of the above be enough to drive the 6xx to resolvnig levels? If so, which combinations would you recommend? If not, what would I need to purchase next, hopefully, 'without breaking the bank', so to speak?
Appreciate any insights/suggestions/advice.
TIA! Cheers!

Almost all of those should drive them no problem.

That's good enough for me.
I'm in the drop. Now it's just a matter of waiting, then actually trying each combination, i.e. amp/dac + dap.
Thanks for taking time to respond, man!
Much appreciated ;)

Yeah, my OP3 can drive these at somewhat low but acceptable volume. And I'm sure your amps and v20 can provide more power than my OP3.

As someone who owns the FiiO Q1, I can assure you it is not enough to drive the 6XX well. I wouldn't use the 6XX with portable gear. You'd likely be better off with the 58X which is still very good, but much easier to drive.
6XX sound great on my Magni 3 though.

There's more to driving headphones well than just getting them to decent volume. Especially with things like smartphones, they often detect higher impedance headphones and apply a ton of EQ to get them up to a decent volume.

Thanks for the advice. Will look into the Schiit series these coming weeks. I got in both the drops for the 6xx and 58x so my options are open. And I do have the Fiio A5 which maxes at 800mW and the Fiio K5 which maxes at 1.7 watts with both each having about 150mW to spare for 300ohm loads), so I think I'm still good with my current set-up (mind you, good, but not great, presumably the 6xx max input power is abput the same as the hd600/650 which is about 200mW {please do correct me if I am mistaken with the 6xx max input power}). But will definitely look into updating my gear as it seems from the reviews here that both 58x and 6xx scales nicely with aptly powered amps.
Cheers!
