View Full Discussion Which amp for these?
The $99 US Schiit Magni 3 is $209 AUS but it looks like the amp to get.
There is a massdrop on the O2, but I do not know
A - a good choice vs the Schiit? (shipping is much cheaper at $15 US) and I like this idea
B - which spec to get in regards to;
- Gain: 2.5x and 6.5x / 1.0x and 3.3x (select your configuration)
Most Schiit products tend to have a bad reputation concerning their sound and measurements. And that is not what you would normally read on massdrop. I used to own the o2 (the jds labs one, not massdrop) and it was amazing for the price you pay for it. If you go for it, you should definitely get the 1.0 3.3. I did not need to use any gain at all and neither is it recommended. Oh, also beware of the import fees.
I just purchased the Creative Sound Blaster X G6. Seems like a good bang for your buck and I like the mixing of audio sources and mic input for my mod mic too!
What about a Topping A30?
I am already using a Soundblaster AE5 from the PC as a DAC
Since you have gone down the gaming way, why don't you just use the onboard amp?
The a30 comes with really high output impedance, but that might not be a problem for you.
I just got an X6 as well. It sounds fantastic, IMO.
I just got mine today, I don’t have my hd6xx yet. However the sound blasterx g6 has made my crappy headphones sound awesome. I can’t wait to see what it can do with the HD6XX!
I would say save up for something like an audio gd r2r to be basically set for life. A lot of people do like the O2 but I have never heard one myself. The magni 3 is NOT worth $209 and that is coming from someone who owns a magni and an r2r.
For these the high output impedance of A30 doesn't matter: as it's 10 Ohm, it's comfortably below 1/8 of the headphone impedance.
I mostly got it because it is portable but have used it my desktop almost exclusively.
