Wondering if I should get these over the 58X Jubilee? I don't mind the price difference.
Also whether these would be an upgrade over my Sony MA-900 or my Audio Technica AD700. If someone has experience with some of these, I would love to know.
According to Solderude here
Bass extension: HD660S > HD650 > HD600 > HD58X
Bass quality: HD660S > HD58X > HD600 > HD650
Mids quality: HD660S > HD58X > HD600 > HD650
Warmth: HD650 > HD58X > HD660S > HD600
Clarity: HD600 > HD58X > HD660S > HD650
Treble quality: HD650 > HD600 > HD660S > HD58X
Treble level: HD600 > HD650 > HD660S > HD58X
Smoothness: HD650 > HD600 > HD660S > HD58X
Liveliness: HD660S > HD58X > HD650 > HD600
Neutral sound: HD600 > HD660S > HD58X > HD650
Also HD58x has a small soundstage and the clamping force is tighter.
As for whether it would be an upgrade it really depends on what you look for in a headphone and what you are doing with it. I don't any experience with the Sony MA-900 or the AD700 but Sennheiser HD 6xx which are using the same drivers as HD 650 that I do have some. HD 650 has much more bass and the infamous Sennheiser "veil" is very prominent compared to any other Sennheiser headphones that I have used. Basically in a nutshell if you want a flatter experience HD58x if you want more bass HD 6xx. If you want to spend more money the HD 6xx scales better but the HD58x works very well with onboard or a cheaper DAC/AMP.
