After trying them for 1 year with two different solid state amps here are my thoughts..
They are smooth sounding, while still maintaining resolution. The 6XX is very forgiving of bad recordings because its highs frequencies are rolled off, or 'dark', and darker than the already 600. This means that they can sound dull at times, however inoffensive, which is why it's forgiving of bad recordings. That being said, the low end or bass in some tracks can be overhauling in regards to the rest of frequencies which is no surprise as its known for a coloured headphone with a warmer sound.
When it comes to amps, it was paired with a Schiit Fulla 2 to begin with, until I transitioned to an iFi Micro iDSD Black Label later on.
The Fulla 2 was a good starting point, especially for the price, but I noticed it had a bright colouring to the DAC.
I then transitioned to the Black Label which helped to clean up the lower end by making it tighter and more
resolving. The high frequencies started to come out a bit, and in general the sound was cleaner.
I ended up selling them because the darkness associated with the 6XX was too much for me, and the bass
sometimes came across as muddy, and as previously stated, very overhauling of other frequencies.
To conclude, for $200 they are good, but if you don't know what your sound preferences are, I would stay away from these because these are coloured headphones and not neutral.
what amp/dac are you using? I thinking about getting a mayflower ARC for these because I mainly game and because I'm going to buy a modmic for these and since it has a mic input I think its a pretty good choice. Im pretty new to all this stuff and don't know too much, after all right now I have void pro wireless so I had to go wrong somewhere. Anyway I want to make a one time purchase and not having to return amp/dac's a bunch of times. Im 100% going to get the HD6XX though for sure. Alright just let me know what you think or anyone else who sees this comment also thinks.
Thank you for your time!
