I started back in the early 80s with a pair of Sennheiser HD 230 (very hi-end for the time) and have been a fan ever since. In the studio I use the HD 300, for live work I use the HD 280 and for home when no leak is required I wear the HD 569 closed back. My serious music listening has been with the BeyerDynamic DT990 which are boombastic. However with this deal on Massdrop I couldn't resist the HD 6xx. Without spending time to discuss all of the emotional jargon used to describe headphones (there's a lot of that online for these phones if you want) I'll just say this - THEY SOUND FANTASTIC. The comfort is better than most even though I prefer a floating headband like the 230s or many AKG. Construction is made of a good quality plastic mixed with some metals. As you already know, some plastics are brittle, looking and feeling cheap - not these. And the earpads and cables are replaceable which is a huge plus. There, I said it. Now go order a pair. Even if you don't have an headphone amp. You won't be sorry. Best open headphone under $500.
I added a Schiit Magna 3 and the Schiit Loki which added more power and control. Definitely worth adding to an already great sound.
