Great pair of headphones to listen to music. My previous main headphones were Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250 Ohm. They are very detailed, but need some EQing to control the highs slightly. I do prefer their bass to the HD 6XX and I believe their highs are a bit more detailed. However, the best part about the HD 6XX is really just how pleasant they sound. They don't lack detail, they're just more relaxed and very pleasing to the ear.
Also ordered the DarkVoice 336SE OTL amp from Massdrop, eager to listen to these headphones with it. My current setup is just a Schiit stack, which does drive them well.
Definitely recommend these headphones over the alternatives, especially for this price.
Comparing a closed headphone (as good as the 770 is) with a open one as the 6xx there will be no competition. The 770 will still be great when you don't want to bother someone.
I don't think it's a matter of competition. Aside from noise isolation, I think it's more a matter of taste and preference and also depending on music genre, as well as recording. I will definitely still use the 770s for some tracks over the 6XX, at least with my current setup. I did wish the 6xx were as comfortable as the 770s, but I'll probably switch their earpads at some point.
I will admit the beyerdynamic DT series is more comfortable.
