So guys I'm considering buying either the HD6XX or the HE4XX, but one thing that I value a lot is forward vocals. I've been reading mixed reports of either one being more forward (closer to you).
Do you guys know which one has closer vocals (louder)?
Also I listen to mostly female rock, acoustic and pop (so a lot of female vocal, string instruments such as guitar and violin, and piano). Anyone know which one would be better for those genre?
6XX for sure. 4XX have more of a slight v-shaped sound (in a good way though). For vocals though, the 6XX sound more forward and separate them better.
Awesome, I've read through many reviews and no one mentioned anything regarding this and now finally a clear answer! Thanks again!
Oh sorry while we're at it, would you say 4XX still has decent vocal compare to most other headphones? I might try both eventually down the line since I'm also intrigued by the planar factor. Also the slight V shape sounds like it might be good for rock. Thanks!
Yeah I find their vocals to be pretty decent, just not as forward of isolated as the Sennheiser HD600 line. I think you'd like them as a side HP, keeping the Sennheisers as your daily drivers.
Cool thanks again for the answer!
Np, do be careful of QC on 4XX though. It may or may not bust on you. Check out reviews and stuff to make sure
Yeah sounds like hifiman in general is hit or miss on their QC so hopefully it works out, but at least it's not super expensive to begin with lol.
I agree with chuckolatte on choosing the 6XX and I like the 4XX as well. From what I can tell the QC issues are a vocal minority and Massdrop has good customer service, I wouldn't worry too much when the time comes. Another beautiful thing about the 6XX, they scale really well with good gear.
I would guess the He4xx are but it's been a while since I've listened to them. The HD6xx is a far better headphone for the money though.
