I scooped the HD 58x the other day. Did I mess up? I'll be using them mostly for gaming and music listening.
In my opinion the best headphones for gaming sold on massdrop are the akg 7xx. I have the Q701, which are quite similar. They have a very wide sound stage and great imaging. That being said I'm not much of a gamer, so what do I know? 😜
For gaming, I agree that the K7XX are the headphone to beat here on Massdrop. For music however, it'd have to be the 6XX, 58X, or 4XX (depending on your music tastes and amp situation).
i own the 7xx and the 58x jubilee. Personally i think the 7xx is a crap headphone and would never buy again. THE only thing its good for is sound stage which is good for gaming but other than that everything else just sucks. The 58x is a very well rounded headphone it can game and do music i think you made the best choice you could out of the headphones on here.
I own K712s and the right side stopped transmitting sound. That being said, I would never recommend a set of AKGs to anyone ever again. Their entire 700 line including the 7xx all have this problem. You may say this is an easy fix. Sure, an easy $250 in shipping fix to have them repaired. thank you for your honest reply, Lucky.
This is an important issue. I personally really like the sound signature of the AKG 700 series, though I can confirm that my headphones (the Q701s) have also suffered right channel audio loss on 3 seperate occasions over 5 years of ownership. Though each time was an easy repair involving the re-solder of a specific joint that had failed over time, it did not promote my confidence in AKG's build quality or manufacturing processes.
So here I am at the 6xx drop, anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new pair of cans that will likely require less maintenance. Will I still use the 701s once the 6xxs arrive? Absolutely. I think that the 701s excel at what they do well.
