This might be a stupid question, but how appreciable would the difference in sound quality be between the 6XX and the Bose SoundLink Wireless headphones? I know the comparison is kind of Apples to Oranges with the 6XX being open backed vs the Bose's closed back, but would the difference in sound quality be big enough to warrant purchasing a pair of 6XX even though I already have the Bose?

bmadgettHi, I have tried the Boses (also the QC 35) and I own another bluetooth Headphones (Sony MDR1000x). While the sound of the Boses and Sony is overall good, it cannot be compared with audiophile headphones, such as Hifiman 4xx or Sennheiser 6xx. They are in another league. Take also into account that transmission vía bluetooth has less quality as the file is compressed. Your decision may depend on the expected use: the 6xx are for domestic use, and you will need a powerful amp to drive them properly. Choose them if your priority is quality and you have budget for the amplifier. Choose the Bose if you want a wireless, portable headphones that don’t need amplifier. If your option is Bose, I would consider to get the QC35 instead, it’s a much better headphone and also has active noise cancellation, which makes them perfect for traveling.

bmadgett6XX is objectively better in every way from clarity, resolution, etc. They don't really compete with Bose because the Bose is a wireless portable closed back option, but the 6XX would be a nice stationary (at home) set to complement the Bose.
