I've been an audiophile since I was a kid. I'm the person whom "fixed" the sound settings on friends' TVs while they were in the bathroom. Likewise, I was compelled to adjust the bass, treble, and fade in every vehicle I'd ever ridden in. My money was always limited in my youth, so, apart from a few sub-$50 pairs of Koss and Sony, I hadn't experienced any truly quality sounding headphones.
I don't remember how, but I recently stumbled onto an article comparing open back and closed back cans. This rekindled a flame for those days of listening to my music at night, in the dark, back before "life" happened. I decided to seek out a decent pair of open backs, and, after reading some reviews, ended up on Massdrop, ordering a pair of 6XXs and an O2 amp. Pure bliss! It was like hearing all of the music again-for the first time. I spent 2 weeks chomping at the bit to get home from work so I could get those things back onto my head! Since then, I've switched out the O2 for a Schiit stack of Magni and Modi 3's, and things have only improved!
I'm not a pro(yet), but if you're looking for a way to get your foot into the audiophile door, or just want to have fun listening to some damn music, pick up the 6XXs ASAP!
