Ive just pre ordered the hd6xx's and am interested in getting Into the audiophile scene. One question I have is do I need a DAC? If so, is it possible/ recommended to play music through my phone while implementing a DAC and amp? As I do not have a laptop or computer to connect to via USB. Or am I better off saving up the money and purchasing a computer and running it through that? I apologize if these are basic/repeated questions on this discussion.

Buying a decent portable dac/amp combo would be fine. And a lot less money than buying a PC just to play music.

These will be my first pair of HiFi headphones. I will be pairing them with my phone LG G7 ThinQ(built in QuadDAC) and for the laptop I will be using a Audioquest Dragonfly Red(USB dac\amp).

Sorry for the late response, but I've decided that I'm going to use the Google chromecast audio. It has a decent dac, all my music streaming apps support it, and it connects to your phone via wifi so there is no bluetooth compression. It was only 40 bucks so it's an easy solution until I have more money to spend on a dac.
