Should I get a tube amp or solid state amp for the hd6xx's? I was originally going to get the schiit magni 3's and call it a day but then I saw the darkvoice 336se on massdrop as well. While the darkvoice is more expensive, I've seen mixed reviews of people saying they do and dont like it paired with the hd6xx's. Will a tube amp be more overall maintenance and require me to spend money on tubes to make it sound good paired with the hd6xx's? The darkvoice is already a little above my budget so if I gotta spend another 60 or more for a nice tube my pockets will be hurting. If anybody has had experience with these amps paired with the hd6xx's please let me know, and thank you in advance!
If you don't have the money, time, or effort then maybe pass on the tubes for now and stick with solid state and be happy with it.
A lot of people recommend the jds labs atom amp. But if you need a more all in one solution then the fiio k3 may not be too bad.
Contrary to belief, tubes don't need much maintenance. They generally last longer than you care to keep them. I only had to replace 1 tube during the 10 years I used tube amps, I probably had more maintenance issues with solid state during that time.
As for what is better, some people swear by tubes, others by solid state. It's really down to personal taste, a lot of people like tubes because it's cool and different sounding, and a lot of audiophiles correlate "different" to "better".
Just buy the best you can afford, whether that's tube or solid state won't matter much in the end.
Isn't the fiio k3 a usb dac/ amp? Cause if that's the case, volume and power may be an issue.
