Have had these since April last year and I absolutely love them. I ended up making custom cables for them since the one it comes with is kinda jank, and yes I heard a difference but I think it has to do with guage and power delivery not copper quality since I used basic Mogami basic starquad microphone wire. Now with these headphone they sound VERY natural. The bass is slightly recessed but it’s only noticeable at lower volumes in my opinion. I have a library of over 4000 flac files and a schiit jotunheim and these headphones really do bring out the beauty in a lot of those songs. My only regret is pairing these headphones with the jotunheim. I game a lot and you can definitely tell how aggressive that headphone amp is. In games that have explosions or big bass notes to signify progression or even loud drums it makes these headphones very fatiguing. I would have rather paired these with the Aune X1S or the x1s/X7s combo. I know these headphones shine more with tubes but for a daily driver I’d rather have something that doesn’t require as much care as tubes do. I’m just not ready to dive into that rabbit hole quite yet. Next time around when I get some spare cash I’ll probably grab the x1s and the akg k7xx since people have said they’re a lot wider and they’ll probably be better for gaming. In short, definitely recommend. The beginning will be slightly uncomfortable for sessions over 30-45 minutes but they do become some of the more comfortable headphone you’ll ever wear and some of the best sounding.

joshy_bennettSchiit DACs & amps became so popular because they once offered significant value over competitors. The gap has definitely closed in that regard, especially over the past year. I'm curious to see how Schiit develops & fairs now that even the "cheap chi-fi" stuff has practically matched or exceeded their popular products.

RiflemanFirstI’ve noticed that trend. I originally got the jotunheim because I wanted a balanced dac amp combo with the features and power limit that I could possibly ever want or need. I still think the jotunheim is hard to beat value wise as far as that goes so I don’t regret the purchase in that sense, but pairing it with the 6xx I feel was a mistake.

joshy_bennettWhy, exactly? And what experience do you have with phones and amps? I am very interested in the Jotunheim.

LociintheskyI have a set of 6xxs and modded monoprice retros for my personal use paired with the schiit jotunheim. In school I worked for our tech department and did audio for productions and film with Yamaha hs5 and akg pro studios using sound board headphone amplifiers. So I’ve had enough experience with different headphones and amplifiers to tell if something sounds harsh or any differences due to equipment. My brother is a performer and has a Behringer q2020(I think that’s the model) and the headphone amp built into that board is so much more relaxed compared to the jotunheim, i felt buyers remorse bad the day I found that out. Also, my onboard sound card on my Asus Maximus 9 code sounds in between the two. But when it comes to pairing the 6xxs with an amp the jotunheim would be last on my list with my experience with it. But different strokes for different folks kind of thing when it comes to audio anyway.

LociintheskyTo be short, schiit amps in general are known to be aggressive and harsh. So, pairing the 6xxs, a very analytical headphone, in my opinion isn’t a good idea to pair with a jotunheim for listening to enjoy.
