I want to mark 3 stars on these headphones but that might not be fair considering my review is subjective and it seems vast majority of people are really impressed with it. So, four stars it is . Disclaimer: I'm definitely not an audiophile but this is *my* honest review about 6xxs. At least, this how I feel about them...  Comfort: Perhaps it depends what *your* level of comfort means but coming from QC35s, Sennheisers feel - not great. They warm the ears quite a bit and you can definitely feel a solid clamping force. After an hour or so, I need a break. Again, the bar is set high by one of the most comfortable headsets out there so it may not be relevant for some people.  Sound. First of all, my setup. I'm running these from iMac, through Marantz HD-DAC1, streaming 16bit Flac from Deezer. No question about it, highs and mids really are splendid and you can really enjoy sound details. But lows... oh the disappointment. Even for music that isn't bass dependant, these simply sound way too dull on the low end. I understood from the beginning what these are for, but I really didn't anticipate I will be getting so little lows to the point that anything that requires just a little bit depth is simply not worth listening on 6xxs. For example, classical music is beautiful most of the time, songs with vocals are great, but rock music? Meh. Don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy figuring out instrument details BUT I also really enjoy to feel that little drum "thump" in the mix - and there simply isn't anything significant there. For anything other then classic, jazz and vocal heavy music, i'm simply much more "happier" using.... wait for it... Bose, Sony or m50x (no judgments please, it's just my personal opinion). So now, reading all other five star reviews, I'm really wondering am I doing something wrong here? Is my setup inadequate to experience the 6xx's reputation? Anyone else experiencing this?

Have you replaced the cable for a higher quality "balanced" one? That seems to be the problem for me. I tried a pair of the straight HD650's from Sennheiser 6 years ago and they literally felt like they were melting my mind with joy. Then I get this pair from Massdrop and they sound way less fulfilling. And then I notice the weight of this cable is much much lighter than the other pair I had tried. In the reference booklet that comes in the box it actually mentions getting the Balanced Cable from Sennheiser. I am thinking THAT is the issue. Another more recent commenter than you said this was exactly his problem and he changed the cables out and now they sound amazing for him. I am going to try that. Memories of that old pair years ago make me unable to give these up until I try.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Just looked up "balance cable" from sennheiser aaaand - ouch :) $240. Additionally, there's no compatible connector on the Maranz amp :/ But I will follow up on this if I solve it...
