Hi, first time buying headphones in this area and I am hoping I will use them for few years before I decide to upgrade them. What would you recommend as amp and dac? I definitely want to buy amp/dac to get the best of the headphones. There are so many companies and models out there that its hard to decide. My budget is around 200-250$ in total. Schiit Magni-Modi or JDS Lab Atom are the two options that I am looking at currently. Can someone help decide between them or recommend something new?
For a dac, I suggest the topping D30 or D50. The Khadas Tone board is another good dac (however, it ships from china, doesn't include a case so you'll have to 3d print one/ find a 3d printing service, and there's no optical input. Just usb). For an amp, I suggest something the JDS Atom if you want a straight up, low distortion, no coloring amp. It's really great for the price. Another option is the liquid spark, which is more of a "fun" amp. I do believe it colors the sound as it does have a tubey characteristic (just slightly warm and a little bit lifted treble. But not like heavily u/v shaped, still pretty neutral).
Buy the atom amp no questions about it being the best out there right now and pair it with with either a modi 3 or a topping d10 and your set for life. the D30 is kind of dated the d50 is nice but isnt all that much better than a d10 and is out of your budget for a complete setup. The modi 3 also measures very good. The khadas is nice but you will have to put it in a case which is kind of a hassle.
Oops, I meant d10 and d30, not d30 and d50. The letter and number naming schemes were never very memorable.
