No official word on "why" and there was not even an announcement that it would increase(price). If you want to raise prices, fine, but what is the reasoning? 2 guesses: 1) Slight increase in price will move more units(price goes up, people scramble to get them before price goes up again). 2) 650 driver barrel is bottoming out and soon the 6XX will be discontinued.

Maybe because this drop is going to end soon?

I've been on here for a bit, the whole reason for the drops was that they start at one price and would only go down as more were sold over time. I've never seen a drop go up in price. Massdrop is pulling a total BS move on it's customers. Like myself, I was going to order this morning, instead I was greeted to a surprise and I thought it was safe. So I'm pissed at Massdrop because this customer feels betrayed. Though I seriously doubt they care but hey I could be wrong.

It really is a huge dick move on MD part. I've read through the "Massdrop made" post about the new pricing model.... But as I've had some beers I'll have to post more about this tomorrow. But it's a pretty sleazy loophole. Edit: "Moving forward, during the initial launch run of most new Massdrop Made products, an exclusive “Launch” price will be available for a specified quantity of products, prior to regular pricing. There are no current plans for this pricing structure to be applied to already launched and in-store Massdrop Made products." The above quote is from a post about new pricing structure for New MD made products, claiming that the HE35X is the first product under this new structure. However it is not, in the initial drop for the Sen58x we were told that the $149 price was not permanent and would likely increase on future drops, and it did. Now we are seeing a $20 increase on another already launched MD made product, the HD6XX. The HD6XX is as of right now, and when the price was increased, a pre-order. Meaning it is not in-store(read:in-stock) and therefore qualifies to have its price altered at MD discretion. <- dick move The only other reasoning for an increase, and I hope this is the case (makes the $20 bump not that bad) is that (it is no secret Sennheiser is no longer producing HD650 drivers) MD has worked out a deal with Sen to continue making HD6XX units, even with driver supply dwindling, meaning the $20 bump in pricing is to offset the cost of MD having to pony up for continued 650 driver production. Anyway, that is my conspiracy theory. Either way it is still a huge mistake on MD part by not communicating or even giving a heads up about the increase. I have not been a member of MD for very long, but I have been around long enough to see the changes, MD is an entirely different animal than what it was... Edit2: link to MD pricing post

Thank you for going through and posting the info and your thoughts. That is super shady, they've ended drops when out of stock. So I am really suspicious of the stock question because it still said product ships in a day. In fact the massdrop made drops are supposed to terminate on the exhaustion of stock. I think it's something else and I suspect it's evil and business minded. It's like they are punishing us for not buying up the HE35X or something. So to add to this all I got myself a nasty head cold. I refuse to buy the HD6XX now, I hope others resisted the manipulation and didn't buy at the price jump as well. Massive dick move by MD for purely greed driven reasons. The fact the staff aren't defending it means they know they pulled a bull shit move. As someone who's very sensitive to overdriven high frequencies, nothing else really works for me. *sigh*
