Hey guys, New to this audio world. Will need some help that im facing with the HD6XX. So here goes.. I bought the HD6XX together with the xDuoo TA-05 Tube Headphone Amp, and when im using the headphones (on my pc btw) i keep hearing this slight buzzing sound. It sounds like kinda like a static feedback its not loud but when i start to crank up the volume i hear it very clearly. So i did a little of troubleshooting. PC > Amp > Headphones = Buzz Iphone > Amp > Headphones = No Buzz PC > Headphones = No Buzz Iphone > Headphones = No Buzz And also, the weird thing is i always thought that (correct me if im wrong) with these kinda open back headphones i always needed an amp to listen through with. But i can hear fine without the amp. So do i really need an amp or am i missing something here. But anyways, i really need help with the buzzing issue as its really annoying when i game (CSGO). TIA

NWAHSXUAFCheck the cable connecting your PC to your amp. Quite often 'buzzing' can be cable related, and since that is the only connection you are getting the buzz from, that could be the culprit. In terms of the amp question, these cans don't specifically need an amp, but can produce better sound with one. I like to use my dragonfly red with them, but they still work well without (just not AS well in my humble opinion).

pyrohIt may also be what’s called a ground loop. Try connecting your amp to another outlet, preferably one on a separate circuit than your pc.

Yarboyes i have tried this as well, its still having the same buzzing sound. do you have any idea if it might be my computer ? do you think getting a DAC would help in this case ?
NWAHSXUAFHow are you connecting your amp to the computer? Yes, cable matters, but also what port are you using vs when you plug the HD 6XX directly into the computer? If its a desktop, I recommend against ever using the front headphone jacks on a desktop. You may get enough volume just from connecting directly to your computer, but what a dedicated amp can do is increase the clarity (tighten everything up), separate the ”distances” of instruments in recordings, and fill in the low end. Honestly, CS:GO’s sound design isn't the best, and you might not have much to gain.

NWAHSXUAFYou might want to try a ground loop breaker like the iDefender or stuff like those, they'll help with the ground loop. Best thing though, is to identify the part of the circuitry that's causing the ground loop.

EvshrugI tried both from the MOBO and the front i still get the same issue. Would a DAC help me out here ?
NWAHSXUAFIt could... there might be a cheaper option like the above mentioned iDefender, but essentially your iPhone is a source, your motherboard (accessable from the front headers and the rear), and a soundcard or DAC are all different sources. IF for sure you don’t hear the same buzz from your tube amp when you turn up the volume (connected to your phone, same volume setting where you hear buzzing on the PC), then it seems that you’ve broadly identified the motherboard as the source of the buzz. A new DAC should then fix it, as long as the USB ports on the mobo don’t have the same issue (which would show up in other ways than buzzing). Personally, I would like a DAC or a DAC with a DSP just because it would let me take my HD 650 (twin to your HD 6XX) to a higher level of performance. The HD 650 was originally Sennheiser’s flagship dynamic headphone for about 8 years, and they designed it to a high standard, capable of showing off even modern gear in prices higher than the original $500 headphone itself. DSPs (Digital Signal Processors) are fun because many of them are designed to take 5.1 and 7.1 Surround feeds from games and convert it to a binaural mix for headphones, meaning that you put on your HD 6XX and it will sound like you are in a well placed home theater surround setup. SOME good DACs: Schiit Modi Multibit, AudioQuest Dragonfly Black, iFi Nano Black Label, Chord Mojo DACs with DSPs (you will probably need to boost these with your tube amp for the HD 6XX): Sennheiser GSX1000, Creative Super-Fi X, Creative BlasterX G6

NWAHSXUAFIn your case the problem is PC-amp connexion for the hiss. What connection you are using? If you use PC sound board , the amp might amplify his sound from that board. It might be poor cable as well. Poor cables are picking up electromagnetic optic noise from surrounding.
