Hey, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on these, but I've been wondering just a few things. What's the headband slider (the part that connects the headphone bodies and the top band) made from? Is it plastic or metal? Also, would these be a satisfactory upgrade to an owner of a ATH-M30x? I currently run them off a PC with a Gigabyte Z97 Sn1per (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/G1Sniper-Z97-rev-1x#ov) with a TI Burr Brown OPA2134 OP amp, and apparently a "clean" usb port for DACs, but could grab a dedicated amp in the near future, any suggestions for a EU resident for use with a PC (optical is probably most convenient)?

nolifedesigns100% metal. You won't believe how high the quality of the construction is. They look and feel like they come from an era where companies took pride in quality and things were still built to last a lifetime. In terms of your second question, the best option to go for is the Topping DX3 Pro dac/amp. It's the best option for the money in terms of quality, features, and functionality. It's available from Amazon EU sites or Audiophonics.fr

LuckyLuke575Hey, first of all, thanks a bunch for your answer, it helps a lot. I did end up ordering the headphones already and looking into amps/dacs to use them with. I looked into some higher end amp/dacs that I could possibly grab second hand for about the same cost as the low end cheapest ones. I've found the Arcam rHead for about 100-135e, Parasound Zdac/Zdac2 for about 150 to 250, but those are on foreign marketplace sites and they'll likely refuse shipping abroad. So I have to consider others, found a Bravo Audio Ocean locally for 80e, Schiit stack from the EU for around 250e, Topping DX3 v1 for 201 shipped from the french site you linked or V2 of it for 30 euros more (is there a big difference?). I'm still not sure which of them would fit the best with the 6xx's. I might use these for several hours a day (2-8) so there's a durability and long term usability concern as well.

nolifedesignsI don't know about the others, but the DX3 Pro is one of the best measuring and complete devices on the market. Power output is more than adequate to dive the 6XX, plus it has a remote, screen to check volume and audio signal quality, BT, and multiple inputs plus preamp RCA output. V1 is better in imo because it it has higher power output and lower output impedance, so you can use it with more headphones. The only benefit of the V2 is that it has LDAC bluetooth so you an stream music at 96/24, whereas with the V1 the BT is only 44.1/16 bit (CD quality). Avoid Schiit at all costs given design, quality, and safety issues.

LuckyLuke575I would never really use bluetooth, but the rest of the features seem great, i've been reading that it does have some more significant ground noise, along with some recent comments that the latest selling models have some more significant changes to them, such as board component changes and a switch to an ESS chip? Instead of the one used up until now. But nobody commented on the sound differences it produces so far. The other choice is waiting for drop to start selling the THX 789 in the EU market, which could take a while, and I wouldn't be able to afford it straight away eitherway.

nolifedesignsGround issues with the DX3? That's bullshit. You can review and compare objective measurements here: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-topping-dx3pro-dac-and-headphone-amp.4967/ It uses 2 x AKM 4493 chips which are excellent.

LuckyLuke575Short update I've since received my pair, and they sound fantastic even coming from my PC, the OP amp inside it isn't a joke, i barely use 20% of the power and they get very loud with that. They do sound a tiny bit thinner but I don't believe I'll be needing an amp straight away. I still have to try 6x gain, gotta flip a switch on the mobo for that :). I've tried them out on my dad's Marantz PM16, bro's Marantz SR6009 and went to two stores and tried out the Marantz HD-DAC1 and Musical Fidelity M1HPAP, and they sound the best on the HD-DAC1, which I'll likely be buying in a few months to a year. The Musical Fidelity is too muddy, blurry and doesn't have a wide enough soundstage, despite mids and vocals being fantastic on it, it also needs 90% volume to drive the 6xx's. But the HD-DAC1 does everything else much better, it's as musical as a granny in sunday church, only needs 20% power for very loud volume and is crystal clear. Can be found for 400e used in Germany/Austria (if only I lived there, heh). Don't get me wrong, they sound great from the full-sized amps as well, but they're a bit too expensive and clunky to keep around the PC.

nolifedesignsThat's excellent man. The best way to go about things is to do the research and then try the different equipment and listen for yourself and then decide what you like. The DX3 is really the top notch option for the money, also with the DX7 Pro coming out there's even more to choose from. In fact, the best transparent objectively measured amp right now is the Geshelli Labs Archel 2. It's even better than the 789, and costs just $150. I think it's going to be released soon. This is the new best amp on the market. https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/geshelli-archel2-headphone-amp-review-another-champ.9438/
