It says 300 ohms! I am told that 32 or 64 much better to use with MP3. What will that affect with sound?

GOLDENEARS19The media format you use matters less than what you use to drive your headphones. At 300 ohms you'll need an amp, for certain. But also, MP3s tend to be highly compressed so you're doing yourself a disservice by using that format anyhow.

TLemelinThank you for that advice but I am not replacing any hi end listening experience! I just want music to listen to when I ride my bike or go walking! I was using my Cowon MP3 with Sony MDR V6 Studio Monitors with great joy and then they broke! Not sure the impedance but they sounded good near max volume though! So wanting something similar in sound! Thus those Sennheiser or also looking at Beyer Dynamics DT990 32ohms! Thank you

GOLDENEARS19You're not going to want to drive the HD 6xx with your phone, so the DT990 32 ohm version is probably the better choice. Personally? I'd pick IEMs for those activities, but that probably just comes down to preference. I wouldn't want giant cans sitting on my head anywhere but in a nice A/Ced room.

TLemelinGot it! What is the IEM of choice? Not familiar with any. Don't want to spend over $175 if possible! Lower impedance important to perform with MP3 player!

GOLDENEARS19Truly wish I could recommend some but IEMs are a (literal) pain point for me. So much so that I recently opted for custom molded IEMs by Ultimate Ears. Having said that, you might find some options here: https://headphonesaddict.com/most-comfortable-earbuds/ For me, comfort takes precedence to sound. I can listen to something that's not quite the best sound, but I won't wear earphones that cause pain or discomfort. I'm not a big fan of the over-the-ear cables (again, comfort thing) so I would lean toward an angled tip design like the JVC HA-FW01 (unfortunately, over your budget). But if you don't mind over-the-ear cables there are a number of good options on that site. Also, generally IEMs are easier to drive so you're not looking at 300ohm impedance.

TLemelinThank you! Was just reading on Cardas and JVC! The JVC is well liked! I agree with you on comfort! I ride an hour or two and comfort is important! Those Sony 6's I had started to sweat after an hour or so but still comfortable! How is the fit in your ear? Do they stay put or what?

GOLDENEARS19Almost no earphones stay put for me, unfortunately. I was eyeing the JVCs, but bit the bullet and went with the UE 7 Pros. I am still, however, looking at the HD 6xx for my over ear cans, but I've got an amp/DAC at my desk that would be driving them.

TLemelinI will continue to look but I think I need the older style over the hear because of the movement on bike etc. I heard what you said about MP3 Media etc. I transferred from my CD's to computer than to my MP3 player and the sound is pretty decent to listen with my Sony's. Otherwise, I have a killer home set up! So far the Beyer 990 with 32ohm looks pretty good! Thanks for your help! Let me know if anything else sounds good to you. I will miss my Sony's

GOLDENEARS19Have you considered something like the Koss KSC75? They are ear clip headphones and can be quite comfortable. Or perhaps the KPH30i. Personally I find it very difficult to use anything with a headband if I'm wearing helmet on bike, and I end up using earbuds or KSC75s. I'd probably caution against Beyer 990s for portable use, they're quite big headphones that don't strongly attach themselves to your head. 6XX would be better because they have quite a lot of clamp force, but even then they're pretty large headphones to use on a bike for example - both 990s and 6XX are much physically larger than MDR-V6s for example, and personally I'd be wanting something smaller and more portable. You might have more luck with something like the Audio-Technica M40X or M50X, although the headband is much thicker than the V6 so if you wear a helmet it'll be problematic.
