Nice! Looks like the HD 6XX I ordered shipped out yesterday! (Oct 29th) This will be my first experience with the HD 6XX, but I have tried a friends Jubilee..
I am using a O2 Headphone Amp atm and starting to shop around for another amp/dac. Been looking at picking up the Schiit Magni 3+ (or Heresy) and Modi stack, or the Asgard 3 with the AK4490 DAC module upgrade.. Anyone have experience with these or any other Schiit products? Then there's the iFi ZEN CAN/DAC..
Asgard with multibit module, your ears will thank you!
I've got a Modi, Magni 3+ stack and just got my HD6XX's in. They sound wonderful together IMO.
I've heard the iFi ZEN and an an O2 as well. Both sound great as well. I never did a true A/B test, so I can only offer that they sounded good to me at the time.
The Schiit stack has the edge in aesthetics I feel. Looks nice and clean on the desk. Also I just really like their company. Their website is funny and no-nonsense. Their products are built in the USA, with as many locally sourced parts as they can get. And they're priced pretty fairly I think.
When looking at a Modi/Magni stack vs Asgard, be sure to keep their size in mind. The Asgard is apretty big unit compared to a Modi.
I'd go for Heresy/Modi stack (or Magnius/Modius if you want semi-balanced). HD6XX needs very clean, noise free power. Asgard is the better amp, but sounds warmer which may be a bit too much for the already warm sounding HD6XX, especially with the 4490 card, which sounds mellow as well.
Since my original post, I picked up the iFi Zen CAN/DAC stack.. been really impressed impressed with it so far.. I picked up a balanced cable (Hart Audio) and running out of the Zen stack via the 4.4mm pentaconn out..
I'm still getting the Schiit stack, as well.. getting it this coming week. Going to do a good comparison of the two.
