AKG isn't going away. They're just closing their factories in Austria and only keeping the ones in China, which is where the K7XX are currently being manufactured.
Do you have an amp/dac? If not then you should just buy one of the headphones and go buy yourself at least a decent amp, since both of these will need some amplification.
