I have really come to like this Veil Wind Shell. Likes:
  1. The fabric feels really nice.
  2. The CFM (wind blocking) and MVTR (breathability) is a nice middle-of-the-road for most day to day situations.
  3. Good athletic cut to it.
  4. Awesome price compared to other high quality wind jackets.

Dislikes:
  1. No bottom hem adjustment cord.
  2. I do not like chest pockets.
  3. Needs longer arms.
  4. Two way zipper would be nice.
Overall, super like this wind jacket. I switch back and forth between this Veil and one from Enlightened Equipment, based on how much cold wind I am expecting. I have published a full article on this wind jacket, if anybody would like to read it.

Packs down super small and kept me from getting chilled on the the top of a windy 14er! Super pleased. I ordered the Navy, medium (only men's sizes were available) and am 5'5" and 140#. There is still just enough room for a light puffy. I didn't need a puffy in this photo because the Veil Wind Shell did it's job!

I own two of these jackets in orange color. I've tested them for several month. I do like fabric a lot (5 star, everything Massdrop claims about it is true), but design of the jacket is not perfect (3 star). I want Massdrop to improve design, this is a main purpose of this review. I also put some tips for potential buyer below. Here is a list of improvements I suggest. 1) I'm missing drawcord hem a lot. That elastic current version has is neither long enough nor strong enough. 2) Please remove chest pocket. It is too small to be useful, it is just extra weight & not good looking. If you have concerns about packing, you can always pack jacket into it's sleeve (just fold it with lower sleeve part sticking out and invert the sleeve - by the way it is faster then stowing into that small pocket). If you want to keep ability to clip it to climbing harness - add thumb loops, they will be outside with this way of packing. 3) Hood size is off - it is too small to fit over climbing helmet (and it is bad idea anyway because fabric does not have stretch), and it is too big to wear over naked head or watch cap (blocks vision). I suggest looking at "Rab Wind Jacket" campsaver sells now - it has the same style hood and Rab did it right. 4) Elastic on cuffs is too lose. Again - look at Rab Wind Jacket - they did it right. Now tips... About jacket fit - my jackets are XL. I'm 6'2", 43" chest, 200lb - so I did sized up, and it was right call - it would be restrictive in the chest otherwise, and leave no space for mid layer. No, I do not like how jacket fits model on the pictures - properly sized windbreaker should have around one inch of extra space around body - it is both warmer and less restrictive this way (and more practical - you can combine is with Polartec 100 fleece and get very flexible system). About jacket performance... I've tested jacket in 40-60 temperature range (I'm in northern California), I mostly use it for high-pace hiking and backpacking. I found it is not breathable enough "on the go", I like Arcteryx Squamish 2016MY better: Squamish is around 3x more breathable (it has around 40CFM according to Richard Nisley from BPL, in my own "darth vader" testing 3 layers or Squamish is more breathable then one layer or Veil). But honestly for my conditions/activity you will be fine with just shirt (until wind is not really severe, which is very rear). Still Massdrop Veil jacket is very useful on stops and as warm-up layer (and would be even more useful if it has drawcord hem, now I have to put jacket hem into pants/shorts which works but ugly). About jacket weight... Both my Veils are 89g. For comparison: Rab Wind Jacket XL size is 141g, Arcteryx Squamish Hoody XL size is 174g. Weight it very good. Also packing size it great, especially compared to Squamish (which has brim I do not like to crumple). Also with quick jamming into sleeve speed of packing/unpacking is great (same true for Wind, but not for Squamish - I'm rolling it into the hood to save brim).

Serves its purpose well. I took it on a fishing trip May 13-16th in Northern MN on the Canadian border. Morning temps in the 30's I had a Patagonia Micro D Snap-T Fleece. It's one of their lightest fleeces. Going out to our fishing spot, winds out of the northwest at 20-30mph. Pulling on the wind shell in the winds on the moving boat was a challenge. I thought the shell would tear, but it never even got close to tearing. Billowed out and sleeves turned inside out and we stopped and I quickly pulled on the Massdrop Veil Wind Shell and was fairly comfortable. The fleece kept some body warmth and the Wind Shell stopped 100% of the wind. So while I was chilled, it wasn't because the wind shell wasn't doing it's job, it prevented any wind from getting in. The hood kept out the wind and I had a baseball cap on, and the hood kept it in place cruising over the waves at about 30mph. Took it off when temps got up into the 70's and the fleece was just enough warmth from the chilly winds. Tried the wind shell by itself, and while no wind got in, the shell itself has no insulation properties, so got pretty chilly. Next day on the trip, it was forecase breezy again and chance of showers. Wore underarmour heavy undershirt, and same fleece and wind shell. Got out on the lake and was completely comfortable in with breezes and temps in the low 40's. Started drizzling and the wind shell got wet and I didn't expect it to be waterproof but stayed dry and didn't wet through. When I got back found some wet spots on the fleece, but never noticed it all day out in the breezy drizzling weather, but can't say for sure if I'd feel comfortable using it as heavy duty raingear. This this is lightweight. All in all, if you have some insulation layer on that isn't wind resistant, (like a lightweight fleece) this is a life saver. I usually wear a Lg or XL, but got a 2XL after reading the reviews, and it was perfect. Can fit some insulation under it and it keeps the wind out. I'm about 5'9" and 200lbs, stocky build and with some fleece under it, it fit great. Great product, extremely light weight and durable. Wore it about 15 days since I got it and still looks brand new!! Will update if I run into issues, but so far great product!!

Quality control issues
The jacket feels nice from the metrial chosen, and blocks wind well, but a seam on the left forearm just started to unravel. It's a small opening now, however it would keep getting larger. This is a clear quality control issue, since I barely even used the jacket and worn it about 3 times. Drop are not standing behind their product and will not replace it, and I think this is bs. So this review is more about the customer survice of drop and less about the jacket I guess, just be aware that there could be quality control issues that surface after 30 days from getting the product and Drop won't do anything to fix it.

The measurements on the page are an absolute lie. Could not even get my arm in the sleeve.
So, how do I return this. since it does not have the measurements published, I'm not paying for it to be returned either.

Very lightweight and well made. Will certainly work for its intended purpose. The problem is the sizing. I’m 6’2” 195 lbs and ordered a large. It fits, but it’s a bit too snug. The length is fine. I sent an email to management asking to exchange for XL, but haven’t heard back. If exchanges aren’t possible I don’t see what the value of ordering clothing from this site is. UPDATE: No exchanges are allowed. Downgraded to two stars.

Bad fit, useless pocket, good materials.
I sized up according to recommendations, and the sleeves are still tight. Makes layering almost impossible. And I'm not particularly muscular. The pocket is too small for anything. It should be at least phone sized. The material seems to be very good and the sewing is top notch. Overall glad that I didn't pay the full price...

THE RETURN PROCESS IS UGLY.
CHECK VERY CAREFULLY THE RETURN POLICY. YOU CAN FIND VAGUE RETURN POLICY BUT I BET YOU CANNOT FIND A SHIPPING ADDRESS OR ANY OTHER SPECIFICS. THAT BEING SAID, ONCE I SENT MULTIPLE EMAILS AND GOT SOMEBODY TO RESPOND, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PEEPS DID THEIR THING WELL. AS FOR THE WIND SHIRTS, I ORDERED TWO AND BOTH HAD TO BE TWO SIZES LARGER THAN NORMAL. I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU WOULD CUT THEM SOOOOO SMALL. ONCE WE GOT SIZES FIGURED OUT, THEY SEEM LIKE WELL MADE GEAR.

Too small... even up-sizing as recommended.
I compared the size specs and went two full sizes larger than my measurements. This thing was still too small. The sleeves were really tight... too tight for a fleece underneath. Way too tight for a down jacket. I am not a fat guy, nor am I ripped with some huge upper body. About all this has is enough room for is a thin base-layer... even then, it kind of restricts movement. I thought to exchange it for a larger size, but nope. It's no surprise that anything larger than XL is out of stock. The jacket seemed like it would be great for backpacking if there was a little more room for insulation underneath. As it is... it will likely be 2.6 oz that I will opt to leave at home. The jacket and material are an awesome idea, though. I hope that Drop does a redesign on this product and incorporates a few changes. Mainly, they needed to make this thing a little larger in the arms so you can put some insulation underneath. Then it would be awesome!
