So far, So good...
I've got 12-hours on this R-2R and I spent just about all of that time with it connected to the CTH > Focal Elex. I didn't judge the first 4-6 hours too harshly (yes, it was kinda rough) but after 6-hours of use I started to get the sound I was hoping for. As a test I just moved the R-2R over to the STAX SRM-727II (L700 mk2) and this is where the R-2R will be staying until I get curious about the 789 which may be a while. The pairing with the STAX is great. If you guys have an electrostatic setup, give it a try. More to come as time passes... Update: I've got 200 hours on the R-2R now. My favorite combination so far is with the THX AAA 789 and Focal Elex. There is something with this combination that brings out the rich and sweet tones in vocals. The top end is transparent. The low end is present. Of my many DACs (VMV D1, Grace SDAC Balanced, ifi iDAC2, SMSL 10th Anniversary and even the DAC in the Fostex HP-A4), this R-2R DAC has become my go-to. Some recordings seem ordinary but when you get to better recorded songs, boy does this R-2R present the music beautifully. I find myself playing SOMETHING IN THE NIGHT by Bruce Springsteen over and over again. In ALWAYS ON MY MIND by Willie Nelson, there's a single female background vocalist at the beginning of the song that sounds like an angel is singing in your ear. I really haven't found a fault with my unit so far. Will report back if things go the other way.

pslayer1Just wanted to clarify, do you also mean that after having it on i.e warmed up it makes a fair difference? Mine should show up next week, I understand R2R DACs apparently like to be run and warm for hours to sound the best per use. Kinda hoping I don't need it on too long, too often though!

ls13cocoFor me, I just have the unit on when I'm listening to it (which I have listened to it for a considerable amount of time, thus far, and on three different amps). That said, to each his own. Part of the fun for me is to start at the beginning and be able to witness any/all transformation first-hand. Other people have their own way of doing things. This is the fun part.

pslayer1Mine was just delivered today. Know R2R Dac's need time to stabilize. Plugged it power for about a 15 minutes, but was wanted to start running signal through it. So I took my Oppo HA-1 out of the circuit, plugged the Airist in and am running it into my receiver (now using the computer volume control). So far All I'm getting is static with some voices. Any music is unlistenable to. Now anytime a voice raises from a presentation playing it seem to overload. Did you listen right away or wait 24 hours before you listened to it?

SoberbillyI listened from minute one and although it sounded like there was distortion in the upper and lower ranges (which cleared over time), there was no static. Something sounds off with your unit... ...but first, i'd try putting the volume control after the DAC (Computer > DAC > AMP w/ voume control > Headphone) and see if that works. ...also, make sure that you have the correct bit rate selected. The R2R only goes up to 384.

MusicLoverYes, have been e-mailing Christian in customer support and he concurs that there seem to be something wrong with my particular unit. Sent me a shipping label to send it back and once he received confirmation of it, the replacement unit is being shipped out. So hopefully next week I'll be able to update on the sound. Then in a few more weeks mly THX789 should be arriving. But the shipping date seems to be pushed back....

SoberbillyThanks for the update. I hope they replace it quickly. This is one of the reasons I hesitated so long. Every time this Dac dropped I went back and forth on whether I should order. Early this morning at 3am I finally jumped on it. I’ve already received a shipping notice so hopefully mine will be issue free. If not I’ll send it back

MusicLoverYes, they have been very fast. Latest update is the unit is expected to be delivered by end of the business day 9/4. Usually we get deliveries early in the morning being a business, so Wednesday during the day I should have the unit, plug it in, start running music through it during the day then after about 24 hours of burn in, cal give it a listen. and some better feed back. From what I heard from just the right channel, it was more than promising.

SoberbillyFingers crossed we will both receive a quality issue free Dac. I am also waiting on the X Grace Design Standard Balanced Dac to arrive any day now. My order for the Beyerdynamic DT 177X Go Headphone are expected to ship at the end of next month. Hopefully I won’t have any issues but if I do I’m sure Drop will take care of them.

MusicLoverWe have a few similarities in our systems. I'll soon hare the R2R and a few weeks ago my AK T1p's came. Let them play non-stop for about 3 days then listened to them. Hearing into my 24/96 & 24/192 mixes like I've never been able to. Hearing things from the 60s Stone mixes I've listened to countless times, I never heard before. Lost 30k+ of audio equipment in my divorce so slowly buildling up a small system. the R2R, the 789 and the AK's are /will be my system. So far, even with this hick-up very satisfied with Drop.

SoberbillyI have several Beyerdynamic’s, T1.2 T5, 1990,1770 ,T90Jubilee, 880, Amiron Home,990,and a few of their other headphones. I’m a little bit of a collector. I know a lot of people find Beyerdynamics to be a little on the Bright side and they are I still enjoy and will usually match them with a Tube amp to calm the highs down. Thanks again

MusicLoverMy other cans are AKG 702 and Sennheiser HD700s with Perlaint balanced cables and some foam mods. The 700s are very comfortable, have the most hours with them having had them for several years. Yet the T1ps reacy much lower and can really hear deep into the mix

SoberbillyUpdate, the replacement unit has arrived. It's in the burning stage, has about an hour on it right now. I'm running it through the line in on my Oppo HA-1 so I have a volume to my amp under my desk at the office. I'll wait for at least 24 hours before I make any detailed comments. But first, this one both channels work perfectly. Right now playing the 24/96 CSO recording of Scheherazade. Very smooth and there is a bit more air around the basses and cellos. So far very promissing!
