RunkMunkThey would certainly be an upgrade. These are hard to beat for the money.

RunkMunkNo save a little more and get hd650's lol seriously though there's allot of headphones out there around 200 that imo are much better than these for sound and especially build these were built cheaply for highest profit margins possible

Petronas44Do you have both?
I don't have K7xx but I am going to get them because I'm not satisfied with HD650 (6xx actually). My AKG K267s are vastly superior (imo) in terms of frequency response and I want to get an open set with similar response.

HeeftyDon't own the 7xx but I do own the 650 and just spent the weekend with two pairs of 7xx's which was why I came on here this morning and tried to tell people the quality wasn't there but If I wanted a k7 series I would go with a used austrian made 712 or a brand new 702 of amazon there $202

HeeftyAnd I haven't heard the 6xx but I wouldn't doubt a difference with the actual 650 it remains my in my top 3 of all headphones I ever heard heard or owned

Petronas44By all reports from reviewers with both in hand, they're identical. They're fun cans for sure, they just don't live up to my demands.
I keep hoping that someone will get something in the price range that checks off enough of my demands to be satisfactory.

bravomailJust MY experience if you don't like what I have to say then either consider me a liar and move on or take it as one bad report and remember that and if you hear it more than you know maybe there's merit to it. I've actually bought quite a few headphones based on what the majority of the internet says is good and I don't like them example (Fidelio x2 and hifiman he400i) and have had the opposite experience with the sennheiser hd700's they are my favorite headphones I've ever heard. Let's all form our own opinions, share them with each other and realize that there is no perfect headphone that suits every person in the world stuff gets over hyped and a bunch of people end up with stuff they don't like so again what I have said is all formed from my own experiences and preferences and they won't be the same as everybody else's how boring would that be

bravomailWell it's not too often I come across someone who spent the $$$ on x2's and then is willing to go against the rest and say you don't like them, good for you, I have a feeling more x2's spend there life on a shelf next to other headphones, im happy I returned them unfortunately when I bought my he400i's right inside the box the manufacture had a card saying how much they will change after up to 150 hours now I don't have that much time on them but they have never changed a bit and at this point I don't think they will ever change enough to be enjoyed by myself and now I can't return them to me the only enjoyable aspect at all about them is the soundstage but I heard everyone say oh that planar bass planar bass planar bass well planar bass sucks if the 400i has it.

bravomailI paid $75 more for my hd700 than I did for my x2 used of course but if you buy used carefully you'll get great deals.
