Just a heads up: These headphones improve *a lot* after burning them in. AKG headphones in general are well-known for improving with burn-in, particularly the K7-- series, and these K7xx are no different.
I've even heard AKG employees recommend 200 to 300 hours of burn-in for these before they reach their full potential. That might be a bit excessive, but overall it's not a good idea to judge these cans right out of the box.
It's possible to speed up the burn-in process for any headphone by playing looped pink noise on them overnight. Pink noise makes the driver "exercise" all frequencies at once.
What kind of improvements can be expected after burning them in?
Literally every aspect of the sound improves. Once the drivers have had time to loosen up, they can perform as they were designed to. Until then, they're too tight and can't react the way they're supposed to.
For me, the most obvious improvements with the K7xx was a fuller sound, better soundstage, slightly better bass, more accurate representation of the source material, etc...
It just didn't sound right until I burned them in.
