What is the difference between these (the K702?) and the K712? They seem to all measure relatively similarly, but I assume the 712 is newer, but what else drives the cost difference? Sorry, never followed AKG much, but these have started to intrigue me. . .

GiantHeadphoneSquidThe K7xx is basically the 701 with updated 712 pads, which I suppose is splitting hairs with the K702. While the K712 is technically superior in the highs, detail, and soundstage, the K7xx is more bang for the buck and relaxed sounding "relatively speaking". I don't find most AKGs ideal for laid-back listening. To my ears, the K7XX has smoother bass than the 712s. Definitely open to other feedback though.

GiantHeadphoneSquidOriginal trilogy is hd650/beyer880/k701 but the k702 sounds better than the k701, and the k712 sounds the same as the k702 anni as that is what it was made for........ but I digress I own an older pair of k712's back when they were 'austrian made' and they are really good headphones, very.

GiantHeadphoneSquidMore detail in games for the K712 pros. I think the K712 pros earcups are a little firmer i think.

awi5951k712s do sound better, but they also cost more, YMMV as well as your money. That said I also recommend dt880/dt990 above the K7XX, but the k712 is equal to them for sure with slightly better staging, maybe even better micro but I still prefer Beyer's house sound.

Uzuzui want to get me a good pair of closed Beyerdynamic headphones i havent tried that brand yet. I have all open headphones HD 650 and Akg k712 pros . Are the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO the best closed from them for 500 or less?

awi5951Way under 500$? Probably. It's hard to avoid the Beyer treble peak without EQ but the 80ohm variety is slightly tamed. This also makes the bass appear more prominent (really enjoy its kick). You might sacrifice some detail at higher volumes though. Otherwise, the 250ohm version is more analytical.

awi5951up to 500? dt1770. I'd still recommend the 770 over it though. As for open/semi I recommend amiron home/dt1990/dt880 all 3 of which are amazing headphones

awi5951I meant that the 770s can be purchased for far less than $500, probably less than $200. Haven't heard the 1770s yet but those hover below or around the 500$ mark. Wouldn't consider purchasing those without demoing first, especially at that price.
