For anyone wanting to purchase these from Canada, be well aware that AKG won't stand by their warranty. If you purchase a unit from the Massdrop (or anywhere in the States) and have it shipped to Canada, both the US and Canadian support will refuse to warranty the product if anything goes wrong. You'll still be covered by Massdrop for 1 year but don't expect a 2 year warranty. AKG customer support is terrible as well.
The headphones themselves are great though. They sound amazing and are worth the price but build quality is an issue as they're made mostly of plastic.
Just a heads up for any Canadian buyers. Dealing with support after my K712s breaking within a year has been a nightmare and I wouldn't wish this experience on anybody.

grumpy1471Did you ever take your K712s out of the house? I was planning on buying these and keeping them at home strictly (I have another pair I take outdoors) and they probably won't leave my desk. Should I really worry about build quality/warranty on these (aside from accidental drops, nothing can prevent that)?

DoongleWhen I was using the K712s, I always used them in my house; they're large and open back so they're best used indoors. For my unit, it seems like it was defective as the issue has to do with an internal wiring issue. The headphones are built well enough that home use shouldn't break them as long as you aren't reckless. That being said, they aren't built like a tank like my current headphones (Philips Fidelio X2).
I wouldn't worry too much about buying these. If you happen to break them after Massdrop's warranty ends though, good luck getting them repaired or replaced if you bought them from another country.

grumpy1471Alright, sounds good. Just seems like I'll need to be extra careful with them. Thanks for the heads-up!

grumpy1471Thanks for the heads up! I live in Canada and was debating if I should join this drop. I think I'll just go with the EMU Walnut Lightweight Headphones for a casual user like me.

grumpy1471We sell AKG here in our store in Montreal, Canada. You absolutely get 2 year warranty on any product. Only in the case of the K7XX do you get 1 year as it's a warranty through Massdrop.

dleblancThat's in the case of purchasing from Canada and shipping to a Canadian address. Shipping from US to Canada is a different case (as I mentioned in my original post). I've been attempting to contact both Canadian and US representatives from AKG and all I get are lazy responses that redirect me to the other person.
The warranty in the K7XX's case may be different but that doesn't change the fact that AKG is by far the worst company I've contacted in terms of customer support. The distributor I purchased my 712s from shares the same experience and has decided to stop selling AKG Pro products as well.
Edit: I went and read the drop page and it states that there's a two year warranty from AKG on the K7XXs. So Massdrop covers 1 year of warranty for all purchasers (whether they're from the US or Canada) but after that, all Canadian buyers are left without support from AKG (directly contrary to their warranty terms).
