does anyone know how important it is to drive these headphones with an amp? i was planning on running them off of a simple 3.5 jack and was wondering how much of a performance hit this series of headphones will take by doing this.

Dashie96I asked the same thing about a week ago here's what someone said: "Yes, the bass is present though not overly so and mids through highs are very clear. I'm just finding the need to increase the volume a notch or two which is of course not possible. Long term I would not be happy without amplification. I switched to my Bose QC's and they were of course much louder though without the clarity and sound stage. Closed earphones I've decided give me a feeling of being closed in. I don't have the words to properly describe it"
Also another guy said: "I would imagine a small E10K would be sweet to drive the K7XX. If later you need an upgrade, keep the E10K as a DAC."
I plan on getting the FiiO E10k to power them for now.. So might not need anything else.

SchmexyI just purchased that exact DAC, plus I've got a Bravo Audio V2. I'll test them both and see how they do. The Fiio noticeably improves the sound of my Grado SR80i, but there's a lot of unwanted pop and fizz from the V2, although I'm hoping a new tube will clear that up.

SchmexyI read a couple reviews that said an amp made a pretty noticible difference. I picked up a fiio e17k to pair with the k7xx's
