Does anyone have these and the Fostex x00's? I'm looking at a new set of 'phones for listening to music. I already have ATH-AD900x's for gaming. Are the fostex worth twice as much as these? Are these much better than what I already have?
go Fostex, pretty straight forward...
I have both, the sound difference between them is like night and day but that's more an open vs closed thing rather than one being better than the other - both have their strengths and weaknesses. The AKG has a much more neutral sounding bass but with a massive sound stage, and from what I've read it sounds like your Audio Technica is about on par with them in this regard but again they're both open cans. When you pit them against the Fostex they just sound weak in comparison, but I really like the heavier bass that closed cans offer. That said, these are the best closed cans I've ever used. When you listen to the Fostex loud you get a great punchy, tactile bass - those massive 50mm drivers vibrating on the side of your head is really something I've never experienced at this price point.
I don't use the Fostex for gaming at all, but have tried them. The AKGs do a much better job there.
If you're set on getting one or the other, get the Fostex. I feel the AKGs would just be too similar to what you have now and you'd end up not using one or the other.
Should I get both the k7xx and the thx00? I have never tried any pair of open back headphones before and would very much like to experience how awesome the soundstage can be, but I am kinda worry that once I get both, I might already be very happy with thx00's soundstage and performance, and the k7xx would become redundant.
I bought the K7XX with the same curiosity - I had never tried open backs before and just wanted to own a pair, and at this price point it was worth a gamble (just by being on this site you know that $200 is nothing when it comes to headphones). I listen to hardcore, heavy metal, hard rock, etc type genres and they sound much better in the Fostex, but as I mentioned in my earlier comment I think this is more an open vs closed thing and these genres sound much better to me in closed cans. I definitely use my Fostex more than the K7XX when it comes to music, but for gaming and movies the K7XX really shines. Things like gunshots and explosions just sound way too boomy/punchy in the Fostex and any closed cans really.
All in all I'm pretty happy with the investment - the gamble paid off!
I see. Thanks, I guess I am gonna get both of them then:)
oh yeah so does the soundstage of the k7xx really kick asses?
