this drop IS from akracing, that is why they are similar.
I'm clearly aware of that. It’s a Massdrop/AKRacing collaboration. I was pointing out where you can get the same chair for slightly more but in all pleather and without the Massdrop logo
You'd be missing out on the Alcantara which is a real nice upgrade.
Just my opinion...but I wouldn’t consider Alcantata an upgrade...it’s, in my opinion, a cheap fabric that does not wear well in cars. Might do better on furniture, but I would never want it in my car.
I assume that that some of the cost savings in this chair come from the partial use of Alcantara.
Here is a nice video on it from a Porsche owner:
I think based on these comments the question is begged, do you realize PU leather is not leather?
I can see your comments making sense if this was LEATHER downgraded to alcantara, whereas PU leather is already a synthetic with its own issues verse leather.
Also to clarify for anyone else this still isnt the only change, the other chair linked is more expensive, has other colors than all-black, does not have the 4d armrest, and has smaller caster wheel size...
Of course I realize this...and I personally prefer the PU. Just offering my opinion. I considered this chair...as well as others...and decided not to go with this particular model for my recent office chair purchase. I found better chairs in my price bracket on sale during the holiday.
Doesn't mean it’s not a good chair...I saw people complaining about the Massdrop logo so I pointed them to almost the same chair without ithe massdrop logo from the same manufacturer. That link is clearly the base model for this chair and I agree that the 4D armrests are the bigger upgrade here than the fabric.
Of course, everyone has opinions and they are free to express them. There are thousands of videos on You Tube that express one user's experience that also may not be consistent with what the majority of users have experienced. As I have said elsewhere, happy people don't post comments or videos at anywhere near the rate unhappy ones do. And while I am not sure exactly what ax he has to grind, he also makes some misstatements, like acting as if there is one grade of Alcantara at one price. That is simply not true. But to be fair, maybe he doesn't know that.
For the record, the Alcantara is substantially more expensive than the PU leather and AKRacing uses the highest grade of PU in the products we produce for the US and Canada.
I've actually sat in this chair and I stand by my comment that it is an "upgrade".
