Just got the chair less than a month ago and I like it a lot but the tilt-lock (or rock and lock) is slipping/breaking and throwing me forward when tilting back and locking it. It was working fine but in the last few days started doing this. I noticed there's wiggle room in the locking mechanism when locked now as well.... I'm a little dismayed that this is happening in less than a month of ownership. I put a support ticket in but I also wanted to see if anyone here had the issue as well or am I looking at a simple defect? Edit/Update: I received a replacement base and installed it. I then proceeded to take apart the old one to see how it was built to determine if the new one will malfunction in the same way or not... There is a small (roughly half an inch wide) "laddered/stepped" catch system positioned in the heart of the rock and lock mechanism that grabs a small heavily powder coated/painted metal ledge that is connected to the reclining system. Well looks like the powder coat wore off and the tilt lock grab just slips at will now. So does this mean the new one will too? I haven't used it too much because I don't want to go through this all over again, the disappointment is too fresh. But I really liked reclining and locking it in position... So time will tell. Still love the rest of the chair though and customer support was awesome and was quick to respond and take care of my issue. Just "taking a picture of the problem" (as they asked of me) was difficult so I sent them a video of it slipping while I was on it.

In the pic above: This is the laddered/stepped lock of the rock and lock mechanism. In the pic below: It looks like the tilt lock isn't grabbing the ledge fully. There was no adjustments I could make to force it to fully grab the lip. So it's not grabbing with the full force it could be. Each successive "slot" was narrower as well leading it to slip more often in the more reclined positions.

GGloverHowdy Glover, This is a very rare occurrence. I want to make sure that you created a service ticket with AKRacing on this, not Drop. Please contact us at service@akracing.com to make sure you get taken care of. I am sorry this has happened but we will get you the replacement parts sent out to you. Cheers.

AKRacingSupportThanks for responding Brian. Good to know it might be rare thing. I've actually lost 10lbs since I got it and I'm down to 180lbs so I know I'm well under the limit (in case you were wondering). Just getting the part(s) affected replaced would honestly be preferable. Hopefully it won't take long.

AKRacingSupport@AKRacingSupport - I am experiencing the same issue and am in contact with service@akracing.com. They just advised me that I need to 'contact Drop.com support to resolve this matter because the chair is exclusive to drop.com.' Please advise. Update: The email support rep responded to clarify some confusion on their end and are going to be sending a 'replacement mechanism'.

GGloverThank you so much for this post, the tilt lock failure has been driving me crazy. Randomly thrown forward, it was shocking. I was just about to tear it apart like you did above thinking something was misaligned in the mechanism. So glad I didn't. I just opened a ticket with @AKRacingSupport Thanks again for the detailed post

Sbranst01I'm glad my post was useful. Don't get me wrong though I love the chair, I just don't love the locking mechanism. Maybe it's a mechanical design issue maybe it was all that grease spread all over it. But whatever it is I don't appreciate the feature as I once did. I've now gone back to locking it in the reclined position while watching movies etc. and unfortunately noticed that the 'give' or wiggle I mentioned in the OP is coming back. Only time will tell if it starts slipping and throwing me forward again. But having problems a little less than a year later is better than a month after ownership... By far! Also I just did a round of maintenance and there were quite a few bolts that needed tightening, so if you notice wobble/wiggle in your seatback the likely culprit is some loose bolts under the reclining-handle-side hinge area (you'll need to remove the screw and take the plastic handle off before trying to remove the plastic cover). After tightening them however, it's more solid than when it was new!

rdkls@AKRacingAmerica, @AKRacingSupport - Just to follow up... some time ago, the tilt-lock started failing again in the same manner. I like everything else about the chair, but having it pop (loudly) out of position is quite startling and frustrating.
