That's literally how it works with custom collabs and products - it is designed, you pay for it, they use your money to have it produced, you receive it once production has ended.
It's a kickstarter without the uncertainty and gamble. You have to wait.

I understand how massdrop works but 6 months is harsh especially if i have to pay for it within a few weeks.

Not 6 months long. This amount of time of pass territory.

I guess you've not been to the mech keyboards community. Yesterday I received a set of keycaps I ordered on the 1st of September 2016, 5+ months is standard. The 6XX drop is going to take about the same amount of time too, as is the 4XX.
I'd rather MD give us a pessimistic ETA than get my hopes up of getting it in 3 months and then face several delays, personally.
Is this sort of wait time acceptable? That's up to the customer, definitely not for everyone. That's not what I was discussing.

I get what you're saying but I respectfully disagree that this should become any kind of norm...not that you exactly said that. What MassDrop should do, IMO, is what they were doing a few years ago during their earlier collabs (K7XX, DacPort Slim, m9XX, even X00). They have proven that these collabs are quite popular and WILL sell. So run these drops when you have these products in the warehouse or at the tail end of the manufacturing process. The collaborating party should accept those terms. I'm a patient man and can wait but MD didn't used to have such long lead times in the earlier days. It used to be like 1 month on some of the aforementioned items, if I remember correctly. Now it's half a year! I literally lol'd when I saw this ship date and have chosen to not join this one despite my interest, with the long ETA being one of the reasons why.

That and does this amp have anything truly special going for it? I mean maybe if it was actually balanced at this price, but I'm still trying to find out why I should be interested.
Is it because of the name? Cause I have never heard of this person before.

Its not standard but it is what you have been conditioned to expect. The lead times for MD have been getting longer and longer as of late.

The cheapest amp on Cavalli's website is like $800. They have a great reputation, but most of their amps are WAY too expensive for most people to get their hands on.

It is literally standard. Per definition, standard is "something established by authority, custom, or general consent as a model or example" - the ETA for exclusive items such as this has been established by the only authority that matters in this particular case; Massdrop.
Either way, discussing semantics is not going to help anyone. I agree with your sentiment generally speaking, I sympathise and I definitely would want ETAs to be shorter but whilst it is fact that lead times have been getting longer and longer, the amount of units sold per drop has also been directly proportional for the better part.
Is the wait time justifiable on Massdrop's end? That's something neither of us can answer. Is the wait time justifiable for us as customers? That's what we can answer.
